Procrastination in many forms...

It's study week for exams, so naturally there is loads of procrastination through the form of delicious foodstuffs, exercise, and... there is always so much stuff to tidy up! (Don't forget the blog I am writing right now...)
I don't know what it is with me this semester, I think I've kinda broken or something... but I just don't have the motivation I had last semester.
The uni has shortened all the semesters, so instead of two weeks off, we have one. Instead of a long mid-year break, it's only 4 weeks. So basically the entire year of teaching is squished between March and October, and then we get an insane four months off. Don't get me wrong - I'm seriously looking forward to those four months!! But it means I've been super stressed for the other eight, with little break in between, and I'm sooo over it. Anyway...

One of those weird apple-apricot-oat muffin-brownie things, covered in yoghurt mixed with peanut flour. It kinda made an icing!

Baby poo pudding. Well, it actually looked more baby poo coloured in real life... this was avocado, banana, spinach, cocoa powder, protein powder... and probably other stuff, I've forgotten now. It tasted better than it looks!

I finally jumped on the bandwagon and had a sweet potato with almond spread & greek yoghurt. Now I see. I understand!

Finished my Justin's Hazelnut Butter and of course had oats in a jar... bittersweet moment.

Peanut flour mixed with the last of my greek yoghurt.

As much as I dearly love blogs that are full of foodie pictures and exercise stuff, and as much as I want to include that in mine, I don't want it to be all about that stuff. I've never been part of "mainstream" or "popular". I've always been on the outskirts. So I guess I kind of want my blog to reflect that.

I'm not a goth or emo or anything like that, I guess it's more that my social anxiety has led me to become more isolated than I would like to be, and while people seem to like me, that's as far as it usually gets. OK, gone off on a tangent there!!

I would like to actually write more often though. Probably after exams. I have three - Chemistry, Anatomy & one that is pretty much social / environmental / biological etc determinants of health, but has a much longer name.

All right I'm going to have to stop writing now and actually start studying.

Oh.. PS. Thanks for all the great comments on my last post :D

WIGTOW? (What I'm going to eat Wednesday)

Woo, time for some more What I Ate Wednesday shenanigans thanks to Peas & Crayons.
So I didn't have much that was of interest today, apart from a bit too much of this (recycled pictures...)

Three coffees.... and one tea.

Peanut butter and apricot jam open sandwiches

And I had OIAJ again...

So... today's entry will be What I'm going to eat next Wednesday :) Next Wednesday I will be doing a hike of about 40 km (this will be the longest day of a five day hike), so I've planned quite a few yummy things to eat, although I suspect I may be too exhausted to eat at the end of it :P

Here's some of the things I've thought of so far:

A few nut bars

A big pack of dried fruit - includes prunes, apricots, apples, pears and peaches. I think I might pick up some cranberries and goji berries too, and some seeds and nuts and mix it all in together. Maybe some dark choc chips too??

A couple of RAW energy bars - I have a few of these stashed away, the top one I think has spirulina and stuff in it, so that's one way to get your greens without a fridge!!

A pack of couscous, mum bought this for me... I was planning on going all raw and natural foods so that I feel good (+ added bonus of not having to carry a stove or matches) but this might be nice one night when we're at a proper camp...

Rice cakes!! Planning on covering them with PB...

This awesome looking raw muesli I found in the health food store the other day. It has sprouted grains and stuff and is made locally. Yum.

The all important ingredient... one with a plastic container. And of course I've already started eating some to "lighten" the container for next week ;)

I may or may not take these... they tend to be on the heavier side, so if I do take some I will eat on the first few days.

I'm also thinking the first morning when I'm at home I'll have for breakfast: avocado on toast with vegemite, and a berry/spinach smoothie... to try and get some good nutrients in me before we begin :D

So if you're reading this... do you have any other suggestions for deliciously healthy food that can be taken on the trail, and doesn't weigh much?

On another note... I'm struggling a lot with my motivation lately. I was going to join a local running group today, but then I psyched myself out by the fact that "everyone will be way better / faster than me and look at me like, 'what is she doing here?' and didn't go. I then didn't have any motivation for anything else either.

I think I'm just really overworked from uni that I just want to sit and do absolutely nothing once I'm done. I spend so many hours studying that when I actually get a chance to do something else, it's like, I don't want to. The lack of parking at the gym lately is making it difficult too. As Nike says though, I should JUST DO IT. I guess today I might just give up on it and have a rest day, relax, watch some TV and then begin again tomorrow.

Fartlek is fun

I forgot to give credit where credit was due on the first one, newbie mistake :) But cheers to Peas & Crayons for thinking up this idea, I have found many cool blogs to follow through this concept. Anyway, on to what I ate today...

I had an empty cashew spread container... so I tried my first oats in a jar :D It was simply 1/2 cup oats, 3/4 cup soy milk, a sprinkling of chia seeds and cinnamons, and some raisins!

Mmm, those raisins were delicious in the morning.

Halfway through... yes don't mind my pyjama pants in the background ;)

Yeah, this ain't food! Here's my AWESOME Nike Lunarglide + 2 shoes... that I bought a week before Lunarglide + 3 came out... Grr... but still love them!

After run snack... vanilla protein powder mixed with about 100grams of mango yoghurt. I don't like this particular brand of protein powder... it was an "all natural" one, but there's some strong flavour in it I really dislike...

Upon lunch time, I looked in the fridge at this sorry state of food :( Severe lack of vegetables!! I didn't want those vegie sausages in the forefront either as I had them yesterday.

So I improvised and made THE BEST FRENCH TOAST EVER.... I used Woolworths Four Seed Ploughman's bread, with two eggs, a sprinkling of soy milk, loads of cinnamon, tsp cocoa powder, a splash of maple syrup, sprinkling of chia seeds and LSA (linseed, sunflower seed, almond meal) mix as the mix to dip the bread in. It went really dark in the pan which I originally thought was because it was burnt, but noo, that was the cocoa... it was perfectly cooked! Out of the pan I put on some apricot jam and a teeny bit of vanilla ice cream. I don't know what it was, but this was so yum!

Still hungry afterwards (somehow) so had a yummy yellow pear... while studying exciting anatomy. I also ate some 70% dark chocolate and had a hot chocolate & a coffee throughout the day, and dinner is forthcoming...

Had a really good run this morning. Had planned a 30 min Fartlek run... I had it all set up in my Runkeeper app to do this:
5 mins warm up
then 10 times this:
1 min x slow
2 min x steady
30 seconds x fast
then cool down.
I somehow decided that all that added up was 30 minutes... hmm, no, try 45 minutes!!! Obviously I suck at maths. So anyway 30 minutes was what I knew I could do comfortably without dying... So at 41 minutes I cut it short and practically limped home!! :) Haha. It was good fun though... I ran on the beach for about 200m, decided it was too hard (as the tide was really far in so not much sand to run on!), then ran on the footpath near the beach, then a park, on the road, back to another park where I finished it off.

That's the only exciting thing I've done today... the rest of the day has been filled with study and procrastination :D

Unsure of dinner at this stage...
